Fundraiser on Donio · until 14 December

Laďo learned to read. Let us help other children.

At the parish house in Markovce we built an outdoor classroom. Since April, children have been reading and writing in it for free. We built it on a loan, and 20 641 € is still left to repay.

Give through Donio → The fundraiser is run by the parish of Markovce. Donio passes on the whole amount without fees. Film: Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child.

How to help

What we lack most is people.

There are so many Roma settlements that we badly lack teachers, volunteers and missionaries.

Costs in 2026: already 70 000 €.

What gifts do not cover, we pay from our own income. A regular gift means we can teach in winter and in summer, and on weekdays as well.

If you are still hesitating · the story in brief

From the office to the Roma settlement.

We deal with money problems through work, not handouts. We do not give out cooked meals; we give flour and oil and teach people to bake bread.

Orthodox priests have had families since AD 33. In the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Innocent II only forbade it in 1139.

The house in Klenovec

Martin leads design at Kiwi.com. The area around Klenovec had already lodged itself in his head, he could not say why: huge unemployment, divorce, drugs. With colleagues from the firm they bought a house here, and thought that as young entrepreneurs they would know how to help.

Four months in the Roma settlement

In March 2017 he moves into the Roma settlement in Klenovec. To really get to know the people, he lives right among them. Later he will write: “I have no regrets to this day, those were the happiest years of my life.”

A log building in the Roma settlement of Mútnik

In the Roma settlement there is no electricity and no room where children could learn. At the end of June 2022 the log building is finished, a classroom and a chapel. The children help with the building. In July it is consecrated as the chapel of Mary Magdalene.

They print their own graphics on a T-shirt and see the internet from the other side. The T-shirts are printed by children from the Roma settlement or by their teachers.

Martin and Míša helped us a lot. When we were in quarantine with eight children who had nothing to eat, they brought us food and games.

They are a beautiful example that denomination does not have to decide.

Get Involved

We are looking for volunteers.

To teach and play with Roma children in central and eastern Slovakia. The first two years in the community are mostly games, and little by little there is more and more teaching.
