Spring 2019

24. 9. 2019

We have not shared any news from what is happening in Klenovec for quite a while, so let us catch up, at least looking back. Since winter we have managed to get several new activities going. They were added one after another, until in the end almost the whole week was filled up.

Mondays were all about sport. From 16:00 there was sport for children up to 14, where we played dodgeball and football, shot baskets, and ran monkey-style obstacle courses and games. Then from 17:30 Martin used to run football for the older boys. We would like to say a big thank you to the headmistress of ZŠ Vladimíra Mínáča, who let us run the activities in their gym.

On Tuesdays we started at three in the afternoon, after lunch. Míša cooked with the girls, mostly preparing refreshments for the evening Bible hour. We baked all sorts of buns and bundt cakes, but the girls liked making chocolate muffins best. :-) Martin taught the children art. First the children learned to draw from templates, and little by little they added painting with colours. To give the children something to aim for, we also held two art competitions with prizes. In the evening we finished with Bible teaching for adults.

On Wednesdays Martin made swords and shields with the boys in the workshops. They learned to work with wood and to be patient until the finished piece was done. The "sword fighting" that followed was no less popular than the making itself. :-) Meanwhile Míša met with the older girls for a small group, where they read from a children's Bible, drank tea, and then cooked something good or made something nice.

Thursdays were free, so that sometimes we could get outside or rest a little.

On Fridays we drove to Hnúšťa to help prepare children for their first Holy Communion. Then in the evening the boys' club "Klínovcakére legendy" could get going. The boys came together for board games, but there was room for singing and reading from the Bible too.

At weekends Míša met with the girls for gardening. But because of her advancing blessed condition and her growing belly, she later had to step back from it.

All the activities took place at our home, on the lower floor, which we had adapted for them. But since the holidays we have had to end the activities for now, because some of the rooms need rebuilding and a separate entrance has to be made.
