He had never seen greater poverty anywhere than in the Slovak Roma settlements.

It is like a film script. A well-off and successful Czech IT worker gave up a comfortable life for the sake of the poor, and all because one day he took a wrong turn in Slovakia into a Roma settlement. What Martin Halík saw there hit him so hard that he changed his life from the ground up. The man whose dream was to be a famous designer and earn a lot of money has been living for several years with his wife, a trained psychologist, and their three children in Gemer, where they give people hope for a better future.
