Guide · Teachers and tutoring

For teachers and for those who can tutor. Children from the age of six need someone who will stay.

What we teach, what the numbers say about the children, and what we will tell you on the phone.

What we teach

Reading, writing, counting. And thinking about things.

We teach children from the age of six. The first two years in the community are mostly games, then more learning is added. The older ones learn a trade in the masonry and multimedia workshops.

Among the volunteers we are also looking for builders and linguists; no particular qualification is needed. romamission.eu, Frequently asked questions

Children

Which children, and what do they need right now?

We work with children from the age of six, from first-graders to ninth-graders. We prepare worksheets for different reading levels, so a first-grader and his brother from the ninth grade can learn side by side.

Time

When do the lessons take place, and how often do you need to come?

We are with the children most at weekends and during the holidays. In 2021 lessons took place every Saturday and Sunday in small groups of three to six children; in February 2022, on Tuesdays at 16:00 and on Sundays. Today: In Markovce, Klenovec and Kačanov, Sunday school has been held regularly for more than a year.

From a distance

Can you tutor online too?

You can help on the spot or online. We will agree on exactly how over the phone.

Education

Do I need a teaching qualification?

No. We match volunteers to tasks according to what they can do. In our experience, teaching goes better in pairs: one leads the program, the other looks after the child who is disturbing the class.

Materials

What do the children learn from?

Roma songbooks, worksheets we prepare ourselves, and the workbooks of the course “The Most Amazing Journey”. These are Christian materials; if that goes against your conscience, get in touch with us anyway.
